Pizza Culture has been recognized as one of the top 100 pizzerias in the world by Italy’s 50 Top Pizza, a self-proclaimed guide to the best pizzerias in the world.

The Calgary pizzeria, opened in 2020 by Jeremy Hube, celebrates “authentic Napoletana and new world inspired pizza,” by making intentional choices in the creation of its pizzas.

After using flour imported from Italy to handmake the dough, pizzas are cooked in an oven built in Napoli, Italy using construction methods that remain unchanged after hundreds of years.

50 Top Pizza, in a write-up about Pizza Culture’s placement on the list, described Hubes’ story as one of “passion and rigor for Italy and Neapolitan pizza,” writing that he brought a piece of Naples to Calgary.

In the fall of 2023, Pizza Culture was inducted into the prestigious Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN), known in English as The True Neapolitan Pizza Association. It is the only pizzeria in Alberta to have earned this designation.

The AVPN aims to promote and protect true Neapolitan pizza, as defined by AVPN international regulations.

Regarding placing 96th in the top-100 list, Hube called it “a testament to the passion and perseverance of our entire team,” in an acknowledgement on the pizzeria’s website.

Only one other Canadian restaurant made the list. Pizzeria Prima Strada, in Victoria, B.C. holds the 100th spot.

50 Top Pizza has been reviewing pizza globally since 2017, providing the public with information on pizza trends around the world.

The independent organization has listings for top pizza Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Europe (excluding Italy), USA and Italy in addition to the world category.

50 Top Pizza inspectors evaluate pizzas anonymously, paying the bill in full and leaving the pizzeria without revealing their identity.
